Where is the best place to shop for Christmas gifts that aren’t super expensive?

Main Post:

Online or in-store, I want good gifts that won’t break the bank this year.

Online Christmas Shopping

Main Post:

I'd like to do more of my Christmas shopping online this year. Being a university student who wont finish finals till December 22end (which I am very disappointed about) I won't have a lot of time to shop in store!

Anyone ever ordered a online? Had good results? Any recommendations of good places?

December 22? Yikes, that's terrible for this year. What country do you attend school in, if I may ask?

As for online shopping, I made the switch about 2 years ago and haven't looked back. It's wonderful — Black Friday deals are truly hard to beat. I bought a TV in 2016 that is still being sold today for $300 more than the price I paid on the BF sale. Just do your research to make sure you aren't buying any "duds".

Black Friday is also a perfect time to shop online because it allows for just enough time to ensure shipping delivery... I wouldn't wait much longer to order, since despite "guaranteed" arrival dates, you can never be too careful since once Christmas is over, it's over.

Amazon.com is really a great place to start, and in fact it was one of the only places I used last year.... still got virtually the best deals on all the items I shopped for. So unless stores are having in-store only sales (which is very rare now), you're guaranteed to get the best deals online, and shipping fees are often waived during BF and pre-Christmas sales.

When do you start your Christmas shopping?

Main Post:

It’s well known in my family and sort of the running joke that I start my Christmas shopping early. I don’t want it to take a financial toll on me so every pay day usually starting in late Aug/Early Sept I buy a couple gifts. This way I don’t go into debt and also get to enjoy December since I am not stuck running around the crowded malls ( I actually enjoy the malls at Christmas but spend my time volunteering at the kids gift charity tree Instead of shopping). So when do you usually start your shopping? Do you tend to do more online or in store? When do you usually finish?

My mother usually starts getting prepared on the 26th of December.

When do you start Christmas shopping (And what is your budget)?

Main Post:

My sons birthday is coming up soon, and whilst it is normal that we have stashed presents for this celebration - I have already started Christmas shopping, with 6 presents for him, one for my father, one for my mother in law and 5 for my wife already bought/delivered/wrapped.

When do most people here start to turn their attention to Christmas?

I Christmas shop all year long, so I can take advantage of sales and clearance. I get really serious and start making lists to figure out what I’ve bought and what I still need in August/September.

The budget is fluid. We tend to go overboard, but shopping the sales means we aren’t spending as much as it seems.

How do you Christmas shop when you're broke?

Main Post:

Looking for more ideas. How can you pull off Christmas gift giving when you're already broke?

Some of the ideas I have:

-The gift of time. Donating time or volunteering or just visiting with the person.

-Passing on an heirloom

-Repurposing, reusing or recycling something. Like all those mason jar crafts.

-Give from your skill set. Maybe artwork, writing, baking etc.

-Use cashback rewards from credit card

-Couponing for free things and giving a basket full.

-Store promos - just saw Kohls has a $5 off $5 on Black Friday and Giant Eagle has a free item every week

-Earn gift cards from swagbucks and similar sites

-Trade and bartering - take books to a book store and swap them out for "new" ones to give. Could also work for video games and cds

What are your ideas? Must not cost anything other than investing time to make it work. Thanks so much :)

My son is broke. I told him to give me one of his books that he thinks I might like. Also told him to take in my recycling/bottles to get some cash so he could give his niece and nephew something. You have some great ideas.
